Building on the success of last year’s program, Notre Dame held its third annual Energy Week September 13-19 on campus. Several activities throughout the week focused on educating students about the world’s energy crisis, and informing them about what the University is doing in terms of energy-related research to address these energy challenges. Read more.

Notre Dame joins Indiana energy consortium
September 25, 2009
The University of Notre Dame Energy Center has joined the Indiana Consortium for Research in Energy Systems and Policy (CRESP). The center joins founding partners Indiana University, Purdue University and Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis in this multidisciplinary organization designed to promote energy focused collaborative investigations and educational opportunities among faculty and researchers at the partner universities. Maginn receives inaugural CoMSEF Early Career Award

Edward J. Maginn, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Notre Dame, is the recipient of the inaugural American Institute of Chemical Engineers CoMSEF (Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum) award for outstanding research. Read more.

Energy Center Director Tours Wind Farm on Maui

Joan F. Brennecke, Energy Center Director, stands atop this 90 meter (296 feet) tall wind turbine, owned and operated by Firstwind http://www.firstwind.com/. The wind farm is located in Maui, Hawaii and consists of 20 wind turbines, each capable of 1.5 MW. Firstwind currently supplies about 8% of the electricity for Maui. View more photos here.

Homeland Security Official Named Energy Center Managing Director. Patrick M. Murphy, most recently program manager in charge of electric power systems research for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has been named managing director of the Notre Dame Energy Center. He will assume his new position April 6.
