Introduction

The University of Notre Dame Energy Center (NDEC) was formed in 2005 and is dedicated to the development of energy related research and education. These initiatives are supported by the NDEC through campus-wide education programs and internal funding opportunities.

The NDEC Student Advisory Board (SAB) was established in 2007 and serves as the leadership body for energy related initiatives for students and provides advice to NDEC Administration on energy related issues and topics in support of the Center’s mission.

Membership Term

SAB members serve a one-year (calendar) term beginning in January and ending in December. Members who are graduating seniors serve an abbreviated term beginning in January and ending in May. Members who become seniors in the fall may elect to stay on the board as mentors to new members until graduation in May.

Roles and Responsibilities

In addition to serving as student leaders in the promotion of energy related research and education and providing advice to NDEC Administration on energy related topics and issues, SAB members are expected to:

    1. Meet semi-monthly or on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. More than 3 absences may result in dismissal from the board.
    2. Recommend and help develop energy related education and outreach programs for both on and off campus constituents.
    3. Suggest speakers and topics for NDEC sponsored seminars, lectures, and conferences.
    4. Plan, organize, and execute the annual Notre Dame Energy Week each fall, and assist with other education programs on campus.
    5. Publicize NDEC education programs, research activities, and other related initiatives to the entire student body.
    6. Stimulate discussion and thinking at Notre Dame by coordinating events focused on understanding global energy challenges, e.g., discussion groups, plant tours, lectures and seminars.
    7. Be knowledgeable of student-led energy related clubs and organizations on campus (e.g., GreeND, SEA) and participate in at least one group through membership or volunteerism.
    8. Be willing to nominate or be nominated for one of the 3 elected positions on the SAB: Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary. Nominations and elections are held in January.

    How to Apply
Students interested in membership on the NDEC SAB should apply by completing the online application by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009. Applicants will be notified of their appointment status by Friday, December 4, 2009. Meetings will begin in January 2010.
